Eight JA Guam student companies participated in the first trade fair of the 2017-2018 season at the Guam Premier Outlets in Tamuning. Students presented their products to patrons of the mall pre-selling goods ranging from eco friendly items such as bags, towels and pencils to pendants, maskRaid, carved wooden name plates and an student handy app.
The 14 weeks after school program teaches high school students the fundamentals of operating a business. After eight weeks of learning how to operate a business entity, each company has chosen and produced their product that represents their vision, mission and values. They have conducted their market research, worked on their marketing strategy and financial literacy programs. The trade fair kicks off the sales criteria of the program which will last through the first week of December before the liquidation process.
The program wraps up with the JA Guam Company of the Year Competition on Saturday, January 6, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Agana Shopping Center. There will be four stages of judging during the competition. First, each team will submit their Annual Report for the judges review. Second, each team will be provided an 8′ x 8′ booth for their product presentation. Third, Judges representing the corporate sector will interview the officers of each student company. Finally, each team will present a skit on stage depicting their JA Guam season.
An awards presentation will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 where the Company of the Year, President of the Year, Vice Presidents of the Year, Best in Show and other categories winners will be announced. The top two companies will go on to Beijing, China to represent JA Guam in the JA Asian Pacific Company of the Year Competition.
